Arts & Culture

Cultural Connections

Through the Center for the Humanities in an Urban Environment, we are engaging the public through unique opportunities to experience and appreciate our rich cultural history. Most recently, the Department of English was instrumental in bringing Shakespeare’s first folio to FIU — the only site in Florida to host the first edition of the Bard’s collected works.

Advocating for Women

The Center for Women's and Gender Studies promotes scholarly inquiry related to gender in diverse cultures. Providing scholarship opportunities for students in the STEM fields and social sciences, we offer degrees, certificates and courses across a range of pressing issues, such as gender, power, race and ethnicity.

Education

The Future of STEM

Our STEM Transformation Institute is improving the way students are introduced to STEM concepts through evidence-based, team-centered learning.  Our nationally recognized learning laboratory produces models for teaching and training that is changing the landscape of the STEM workforce and driving innovation in industries locally and beyond.

Inspiring Explorers

Igniting passion for our cosmos to spur future discovery, the Stocker AstroScience Center brings the farthest reaches of space to South Florida. From local students to community members young and old, we are using our observatory, state-of-the-art control room and telescope to captivate and motivate future astronomers, astronauts and engaged citizens.

Environment

Saving Species

The Tropical Conservation Institute is working to protect species around the world by working with partners to address the many threats they face. Through captive breeding programs, we have been able to rehabilitate and reintroduce populations of animals previously believed to be doomed.

Impacting Policy

Exploring and informing management and policy decisions for our drinking water, Everglades restoration and overall ecosystem health is a major driver of the Florida Coastal Everglades Long-Term Ecological Research Program.

Science & Health

Affordable, Accessible Care

All families should have access to effective, evidence-based treatment they can afford. Our multidisciplinary Center for Children and Families serves as a one-stop facility to address the specific needs of children with behavioral and learning difficulties. We provide support and training for parents and practitioners to give everyone working on the frontlines the best tools to ensure a happier, healthier future for all.

Personalized Medicine

Imagine a world where medicine is as unique as the patient. Diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s treated with drugs tailored to your body’s individual blueprint. Our researchers are working across disciplines to bring us one step closer to groundbreaking discoveries that will help millions while training the next generations of innovators to continue this important work.
